Frogger, Space Invaders, Pacman, Arkanoid, Centipede… The hours I spent at the crazy, cat-tormenting Australian neighbor’s house just to hone my ability to cross the pond, kill the fleet, and evade Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde for yet another round. Little did I know, decades later, I would still fall into a strange trance when placed before an original Arkanoid arcade game (they’ve got the whole lineup at Barcade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn). While I was playing video games, my brother was creating and narrating fantastical worlds and adventures out of a million Lego blocks. Here, in these two hilarious stop-motion videos by Michael Hickox, it’s as if our sibling story has come full circle! With a perfectly accurate soundtrack to match, my paws are itching for a round of Dig Dug! Jamesons at Barcade? Anybody?
