Fashion Scout » Ground-Zero

What do Sunkist, Joy Division, AMEX, marijuana, Camel cigarettes, Johnson & Johnson, and Care Bear have in common? It’s all just the visual fodder of brother powerhouse Eri and Philip Chu’s Fall/Winter ‘09 collection for their label Ground-Zero. This f*cked up mix of consumer-culture graphics, multi-function garments and hobo/military/crumpled-paper textiles (oh, the Sunkist coat! Must… have… it…) lends for gender-bending jackets, tees, and trousers that will last well through the chilly months and filter nicely into your spring wardrobe. The only downside? You’ll want NEED it all!!! Guess the Chu boys hit it on the nose with the collection’s name ( we need ) and mission statement:
WE NEED. We buy. We spend. We pick. We wear. Simply because we need. Fashion is as natural an impulse as a spree in the supermarket. In their ‘09 fall/winter collection, “WE NEED…,” Ground-Zero draws a parallel between two everyday necessities: groceries & fashion. As if doing their shopping along the supermarket aisles, Eri and Philip Chu put an array of elements into their design cart. “WE NEED..” plays with strong graphics, drippy shapes and layering along with a touch of urbanity. One should expect military details on a trench coat with Sunkist logos and a t-shirt in a tuxedo silhouette. – Ground-Zero
